Taking the probiotic and prebiotic at night so that it can travel through the body uninterrupted by food and digestive functions. If can be helpful to start with a small dose, a quarter of the recommended dose and build up, a quarter of a dose at a time, every four days. This is particularly true if any digestive symptoms develop. If in doubt consider speaking to a nutritionist.

Our digestive system is teaming with bacteria and many, if not most of those, are supportive of our gut and immune health. Many, however, are not helpful and these contribute to low energy, increased feelings of toxicity, bloating, digestive discomfort and reduced absorption of food. When the microbiome is out of balance and unhelpful or pathogenic bacteria flourish, this has a detrimental effect on the liver and also on hormonal balance. This can contribute towards issues like endometriosis, PMT, cramping and other hormonal problems.

The bacterial layer in the digestive system is an additional layer of digestion before food is absorbed into the body. The helpful bacteria contain digestive enzymes which continue to support the breakdown of food before absorption and a healthy microbiome will also produce vitamins such as vitamin K and B vitamins which our body uses for health.

The kind of issues that may benefit from an improved microbiome are allergies, intolerances, digestive issues, immune issues including auto-immune problems, urinary tract infections, bad breath, energy levels especially if energy dips after eating. It is especially helpful to the baby to use probiotics in the last trimester as a good bacterial colony will support gut health in the baby after birth.

It is particularly helpful to take before, during and after antibiotics to reduce the issues that antibiotics can cause for the digestive system. Remember there are a certain amount of antibiotics in meat and dairy products as these are used in the agricultural industry, on a regular basis, and so get into our food.

Combines well with other products such as a multivitamin (Women’s Formula, Men’s Formula or Pregnancy Formula), an antioxidant product (Vitamin C, Antioxidant and Coenzyme Q10, Kelp or GTF Chromium), a Fish Oil (if oily fish is not eaten on a regular basis), a Vitamin D3 (especially in the winter, but possibly also autumn and spring) and a Magnesium (tired, busy and stressed or tight muscles), to ensure that all nutritional bases are covered.
